State of the Party Address

Postby Emeralddragon » Sat May 23, 2009 4:13 pm

Ok since the olden days aka a couple years ago with some odd postings every so often by a small few people this section has gone quite unnoticed. Lets change that.

Currently the party has no constitution outlining the structure of the party. I was working on one before and still have it. There will be some tweaking done and at such a time as it is ready it will be shown to potential ppie members for review before deciding on its final incarnation.

We set a goal for the 2009 local elections aka this years elections. Nothing was really done towards that goal. I myself was about to run for locals but was unfortunately unable to due to lack of funds for things like posters and leaflets. The process of running for a local election had even been made simpler as running in county/city elections could be done with a 100 euro deposit and 50 for town councils. We did not even need to be a party for these elections as party affiliation can be done at any stage after them. The next elections though we will be going full force as a party if at all possible.

As well as signatures from people we needed forms from:

Office of the Registrar of Political Parties
Leinster House
Dublin 2
IRELAND

Tel:+353 (0)1 6184200 or +353 (0)1 6183438
Fax:+353 (0)1 6184102
Homepage:http://www.oireachtas.ie/viewdoc.asp?fn=/documents/a-misc/orgchart.htm
Email:clerk@oireachtas.ie

I have tried several times to get copies of these forms and all requests have gone unanswered. It might change now that those weirdos from Libertas have made a party.

I have also made for us a twitter account. http://www.twitter.com/piratepartyie

We need a website. Anyone willing to host and maintain a website should post in here and we can sort out something in relation to this.

Anybody wish to add anything?

I might be able to get some space on my dads server not sure....
But I'll be gone for a while anyway, apologies.
Junior Cert for ~2.5 weeks, then NY for 10 days, a week/week and a half and I'm at CTYI for 3 weeks. I'll spread the word as much as I can though.

Okay, I am new here.

Very interested in being involved with the pirate party although not sure yet in what capacity.

My main issue with copyright is the removal of rights from artists and this is something I feel strongly about hence my involvement with Misantrof (http://www.misantrof.net)

I am very busy person but I can offer some help in providing a website for you. It would be great to see Ireland have a Pirate Party but it should be one where all members are entitled to their own opinions and not have to follow some party line. As we once said with misantrof - We are the voice of reason in a world that screams "protect me".

Jardenia I agree completely. in the draft constitution Im putting together for the group (obviously it will be reviewed by others before being finalised) it is stated that while there may be an official party view each member may make his/her own views known and shall not be criticised for having those opinions.

A website would be amazingly helpful to us. TBH without one I doubt that many will bother to do much for th party as is evident from the near non-existent level of activity here over the last couple years.

.ie domains require a lot of paperwork to prove identity. When we are a registered party we can get it no problem. I was actually thinking of getting that .com domain over the last few weeks and was debating getting the .net and .org domains too. May get those 2 in a while and just forward them to the .com

Just a small thing what package do you have set up for the site on godaddy?

If you have the basic or standard packages it should be fine but at some point we would need to go for the unlimited package. Of course this can be done when the party becomes official and the domains and hosting get transferred to the party.

The reason for needing more space is simple. Unlike every other party we must show ALL our finances on the site at all times. I would also like to have us being very transparent aka any official meeting is recorded and made available online.

The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. Even today, there is little value in opposing the threat of a closed society by imitating its arbitrary restrictions. Even today, there is little value in insuring the survival of our nation if our traditions do not survive with it. And there is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit to the extent that it is in my control. And no official of my Administration, whether his rank is high or low, civilian or military, should interpret my words here tonight as an excuse to censor the news, to stifle dissent, to cover up our mistakes or to withhold from the press and the public the facts they deserve to know.

Look into Joomla or Drupal for managing the website.

I have webspace if you want to use for your website. Also I have a simple to use editing system that I use on other websites I manage. It is almost as easy as making a post to a forum :)

The main thing should be that this website should be easy for anyone involved to edit things as they wish, or add new content without having to rely on one or two people to do it.

only gonna do a holding page at the moment, then once we get going get a wordpress template done up and get phpBB up and running. i dont mind doing it and setting everybody up on it. if anyone has any design ideas you can post them here and let everyone decide on it!

I have posted in a topic below. I would very interested in taking part in an Irish Pirate Party, or is that Pirate Party of Ireland (splitter :D )?

Before I do it would there be any problem at this end to be linking to this forum in my sig on boards? It might help raise awareness.

Three people are linking to this on boards.
Me, Shooter, and another guy who I don't think is here.

I could really see this growing now...
