Campaigning during COVID-19: First SCENE meeting of 2021!

Dear Pirates,

Now that the holidays are officially over, it is time to get back to work!

We are excited to announce the first PPI Standing Committee meeting of 2021, which will be the Standing Committee on External Networking Engagement, aka SCENE! This committee is all about campaigning, outreach and public relations in the Pirate movement.

The topic for this meeting will be ‘Campaigning during COVID-19‘.

We do not need to tell you that we are still in the midst of a deadly global pandemic with many countries and regions in lockdown. However, 2021 is also a big election year with several countries holding elections whether it be at the federal, provincial or municipal level. This means that many Pirate Parties will be campaigning throughout the year and hopefully winning seats in their legislatures.

That is exactly why we are holding this meeting. We need to have a conversation about how to effectively campaign during a pandemic where lockdowns and social distancing are the new normal. We want to hear about the unique challenges that face you as well as your strategies and recommendations for overcoming them.

We would also like to organize global support campaigns for those Pirates who are going into elections.

Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting and share your insight. We would especially love to hear from you if you are from a party that is getting ready for elections this year or if you went through elections during the first wave of the pandemic in 2020.
