PPI General Assembly: January 10th, 2026

We will hold our next GA on January 10th, 2026. As usual, this will be an online conference. However, we will have an in person meeting in Potsdam, Germany. Please let us know if you are planning on physically coming to Potsdam, so we can plan a proper venue. As usual, we will have speakers, elections, motions, and any other business. Please remember to suggest any statute revisions at least a month beforehand, if any. We will present more detailed announcements about motions. Today, April 16th, 2025, we are proudly celebrating 15 remarkable years since the founding of Pirate Parties International. On this very day in 2010 Pirates from around the world gathered in Brussels for a 3 day conference which established an international office for Pirate parties around the world. As we celebrate our birthday, we’re reminded of the collective strength of our global movement. Over the years, PPI has grown into a vibrant community with members in over 40 countries. Social Media and UN Working Group Meeting Review

The SCENE (Standing Committee on External Networking Engagement) and SCUBA (Standing Committee on UN Bureaucratic Activities) working groups met on Feb. 11th. The following is a summary of that meeting. We started social media accounts with BlueSky- @ppinternational.bsky.social and Mastodon- https://mastodon.social/@ppinternational). With Twitter (now “X”) phasing out free TweetDeck access and introducing “Pro X,” we agreed that paying for such a tool just doesn’t mesh with our Pirate ethos. Instead, we’re researching open-source or cost-free alternatives to manage our accounts across X, Mastodon, Facebook, and Bluesky . PPI Winter General Assembly on Jan. 11, 2025

Ahoy Pirates! The Pirate Parties International (PPI) Winter General Assembly (GA) will take place on January 11th, 2025, starting at noon UTC. If needed we will schedule an extra day on January 12th, but our goal is to finish in one day. The General Meeting will be held online but with physical satellite locations of Pirates who choose to meet up. Please let us know if your party will hold a satellite venue, which we can advertise as a meet up location. New member applications and statute amendments are due by 12th December 2024. PPI Attends The World Summit on the Information Society

PPI recently attended The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) +20 Forum High-Level Event 2024 from 27 to 31 May 2024. This is a UN summit held in Geneva. The current event marked the summit’s 20th anniversary. The WSIS aims to bridge the digital divide by increasing internet accessibility in developing countries. The event was co-organized by several United Nations organizations including ITU, UNESCO, UNDP, and UNCTAD. Numerous NGOs spoke, and PPI’s representatives were able to interact with these other NGOs, network, and share ideas. Our PPI UNOG main representative Carlos Polo attended the event on our behalf. Discussions focused on internet communication technologies (ICTs) that can foster development. …

Board Meeting Review, Next Meeting June 18

Minutes from the last board meeting are available here: https://wiki.pp-international.net/wiki/index.php?title=PPI_Minutes_2024-05-28 To summarize our last meeting in one sentence, we discussed European elections, Russian elections, an unofficial Pirate beer gathering that took place and plans to organize another Pirate beer soon, PPI technology, finances, social media guidelines and establishing a permanent admin for accounts with a sim card and official email, ECOSOC/UN matters, and unattended board member seats. We hope to see everyone soon at another meeting.

Social Media Working Group Review

On April 17th PPI held a double working group event of the SCENE (social media) and AI groups. We present a brief overview of the social media working group here. We also announce that since the participants were so excited about the progress that we scheduled the next working group to take place in just one week: 25th April 18:00 UTC, again on our Jitsi: https://jitsi.pirati.cz/PPI-Board The social media group discussed was chaired by Bailey Lamon. PPI Sends Delegates To The United Nations’ Internet Governance Forum

From October 7th to 12th PPI sent two of its board members, Alexander Isavnin and Keith Goldstein, to the UN’s Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Kyoto, Japan. They were joined by many other colleagues, some of whom are also Pirates formally and informally in Japan and around the world. The IGF fosters collaboration between organizations in order to shape the future of the internet. The event takes place each year in a different country. PPI has participated in the IGF several times in the past, as it is one of the most relevant UN events for us. We hosted a virtual booth, spoke in talks, and attended numerous sessions. Recordings …
