The first session of the United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance took place in Geneva on 6 and 7 July 2026. Reviewing Our United Nations Activities

Perhaps the crowning achievement of PPI has been our participation in UN forums. We created a separate headquarters in Geneva in 2016, specifically with the goal of having a seat at UNOG. The following year in 2017 we were officially admitted into the Economic and Social Council Affairs Council. That same year we set up another center in New York hosted by local Pirates, which assists representatives attend events at UNHQ. In 2018 PPI achieved a milestone registering representatives simultaneously in all three UN centers. Most recently, since 2024, we now have an additional center in Vienna that can also assist Pirates who wish to attend events at UNOV. We …

Report on the 69th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), Vienna

The 69th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) took place from March 9th to 13th at the United Nations offices in Vienna. The event was structured into plenary sessions, side events, and a number of mostly closed meetings. Representing Pirate Parties International, Lilia Kayra Kuyumcu and Kay Schroeder attended the session and followed the discussions closely. Overall, the atmosphere throughout the week was generally polite and friendly, and at times even a bit funny. The first three days were particularly crowded, with a noticeable drop in attendance toward the end of the session. This shift gave the later days a calmer and somewhat more relaxed tone. PPI at UNOG on the Global Inequality Emergency

PPI’s representative in Geneva, Carlos Polo, recently attended the high-level event hosted by the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) titled “Meeting the Inequality Emergency: Building a New Era of Understanding and Cooperation.” The event marked the launch of the first report on global inequality presented to the G20 by the Extraordinary Committee of Independent Experts on Global Inequality, chaired by Nobel Laureate Joseph E. Stiglitz. The Case for a Digital Legacies Treaty

Pirate Parties International has increasingly advocated for digital rights in international forums. The UN has decided the fate of the Internet at the WSIS Today, December 18, 2025 a major international conference has concluded at the UN HQ in NY with vast represcusions for the future of a free, global internet. Global efforts to protect the environment

PPI’s main delegate at the United Nations Office of Geneva, Mr. Carlos Polo, attended events of the Environmental Programme (UNEP) this August. We attach some pictures of his visit, and we offer some comments about the efforts of our organization in helping to shape environmental policy.   The UNEP oordinates environmental work across the UN, but it is not the only organization. The following is a comment from PPI’s main representative at UNOV, Kay Schroeder, who recently tried to attend the United Nations “Convention against Corruption” (UNCAC) in Vienna. “This week, the “Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption” has begun in Vienna. Unfortunately, I cannot attend, as civil society is barred from participating. Nevertheless, I would like to share my thoughts on the topic of anti-corruption, the obvious impossibility of addressing this issue by the very suspects themselves, and the accompanying shadowboxing. PPI at the International Labor Organization Conference

PPI´s main delegate in at the UN Office of Geneva, Carlos Polo, attended the 113th International Labour Organization Conference. The event took place in June 2-13, 2025. The ILO predates the UN, and it has a very important place in history. It was founded when World War One came to a close with the Treaty of Versailles. It became the first specialized agency of the United Nations in 1946 with a specialization in social justice. This year´s conference focused on biological hazards in the workplace, but a wide range of employment issues were discussed.
