Report from the Frontlines in Ukraine

The following is a report from PPI Board member and representative from the Pirate Party of the Netherlands, Mark Anthony van Treuren about his observations during humanitarian missions in Ukraine. Report on my travel through Ukraine Over the past four years, I have travelled to Ukraine many times to deliver humanitarian aid. GA Will Start at 13:00 UTC, Proceedings and Motions will begin at 14:00 UTC

The GA schedule for June 20th is now being updated. Based on the feedback received so far, there appears to be support for scheduling the GA in the early afternoon UTC. This schedule gives both western and eastern time zones a reasonable opportunity to participate. It would correspond to 09:00 in Chile, 15:00 for much of Europe, and 23:00 in Sydney. This appears to be the most balanced option currently available. We therefore announce the following preliminary schedule for the General Assembly: 13:00 UTC – Registration and quorum confirmation 14:00 UTC – Formal opening of the General Assembly 18:00 UTC – Planned closing time There are no elections for this …

Let´s Keep Android Open!

Pirates have consistently chosen Android over Apple because it is opensource and free. You buy the phone, so you should be able to decide what apps run on it. You should be able to tinker with it, as you wish. Unfortunately, Google’s new developer verification rules will change that. Starting in September 2026 (just a few months away from now), apps from outside the Play Store will be blocked unless the developer has registered with Google, agreed to its terms, paid fees, and handed over their identity documents. The Case for a Digital Legacies Treaty

Pirate Parties International has increasingly advocated for digital rights in international forums. Our UNHQ representatives presented the importance of digital rights during their 2018 speech at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and we also published the following statement that year for the Report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. We emphasize that digital rights are human rights, and global treaties must sanctify those rights and police nation states that both restrict access to digital services and violate privacy. Global efforts to protect the environment

PPI’s main delegate at the United Nations Office of Geneva, Mr. Carlos Polo, attended events of the Environmental Programme (UNEP) this August. We attach some pictures of his visit, and we offer some comments about the efforts of our organization in helping to shape environmental policy.   The UNEP oordinates environmental work across the UN, but it is not the only organization. The UN has now created the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). January 2026 PPI GA Location Discussion

We are debating where to hold our General Assembly (GA) in January 2026. The Board considered holding a physical event in Warsaw, Prague, and Potsdam/Berlin. We are open to any reasonable offers. The event will also be taking place online, and the physical event may be a small or large event. Technically more than one physical event is acceptable considering the global needs of our organization. Please let a PPI representative know by October 19th if your party would like to host the GA. We will announce the location(s) of the GA the following week.
