Pirate Party Netherlands Makes Statement on Israel and Palestine

The Pirate Party of the Netherlands released the following statement about the ongoing conflict in Israel and Palestine. We have translated that statement from Dutch for the international community. We also remind our members and our friends from other organizations to let us know if you have any important political statements that you would like us to broadcast. Israel & Palestine March 25, 2025 by Mark van Treuren Since the outbreak of the latest conflict between Israel and Hamas, we have been confronted with inhumane situations. The Pirate Party, like many others, stands as a powerless spectator to the atrocities occurring there. Violence is met with even greater violence. Recognizing …

The Pirate Party of Russia Endorses the United Nations Open Source Principles

The Pirate Party of Russia Endorses the United Nations Open Source Principles Recently, the Digital Technology Network (DTN) of the UN Board of Directors adopted 8 Open Source Principles. The Pirate Party of Russia, since its inception, has advocated for openness—including open source—and international integration. Therefore, we have decided to join this important initiative, which positively impacts the development of all humanity in a broad sense. In our decision-making, we adhere to the principles of direct electronic democracy and meta-politics. At our Congress—a body of direct governance consisting of all party members—81% voted in favor of joining this initiative. The UN Open Source Principles consist of eight guiding principles that …

Pirates at the UN Office at Geneva, 2025

Our colleague from the Pirate Party of Switzerland, Carlos Polo, attended the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Resource Management Week 2025 in Geneva from March 24 to 28. The goal of the event was to discuss sustainable management of energy and mineral resources. Participants explored the adoption of the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS). Numerous experts spoke on ‘just energy transition’, whereby we are converting from fossil fuels to more environmentally friendly energy use. Our representatives very much appreciate going to the events, as well as the side events that can be less formal and provide more opportunities …

Let’s Revisit The Tyranny of the Putin Regime in Ukraine

Opposition to war is ingrained in Pirate values. Pirates have stood firmly against the aggression of Putins’s regime and in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty. The conflict in Ukraine has been a rallying call for us. Pirate Parties International responded swiftly in solidarity with Ukraine. We began volunteer activities to support Ukraine with donations. Some of our members even travelled to Ukraine, risking their own lives to provide aid. Three years later the conflict continues. We may be at a crossroads where the US government seems to be switching sides, and we worry for the future of the region. There have been growing untruths (especially by the current US President) that …

Concerns About Pegasus Spyware in Japan

Speakers shared concerns about illegal monitoring through Pegasus. They said it is dangerous if private data is collected without permission. Dialogue Over Division: Pirate Parties and BDS

A recent article in the German Pirate affiliated Flaschenpost newspaper by Markus Schaub entitled “The working structure of BDS” describes a hierarchical and centrally coordinated movement with ties to terrorist groups. This image stands in contrast to the grassroots campaign many associate with BDS.  Within the Pirate Party movement, there is a notable divide. Many Pirates see BDS as a tool for Palestinian advocacy, an expression of civil disobedience, a legitimate form of protest against genuine attrocities of the Israeli government… Another contingent of our supporters, as depicted in Markus Schaub’s exposé, equate BDS’s goal as the extermination of Jews in Israel, the whitewashing of Hamas’s atrocities, an extension of Palestinian …
