ECHR: Network blocking in Russia violates human rights

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR/ECtHR) in its judgment recognized the practice of blocking in Russia as incompatible with Articles 10 (the right to freedom of expression) and 13 (the right to a fair trial) of the European Charter of Human Rights. Gregory Engels, Representative for International Cooperation and City Councillor of the Pirate Party of Germany in Offenbach, has brought an action before the ECtHR. He is the owner of the Internet domain rublacklist.net, which is used by the Russian NGO “RosKomSvoboda” (in English: Russian Committee for Freedom) to provide detailed journalistic coverage of the Russian network closures. Announcement: Spring General Assembly 2020!

Greetings Pirates, A few months have passed since our General Assembly in December. The PPI board, along with the Pirate community at large, have been working hard.  In addition to ongoing projects, regular online meetings and social events, we have increased activities and communication with our members through the launch of 4 standing committees. The Pirate Party of Chile (PPCL) is calling on other Pirate parties to intercede with their governments to demand an end to violence against citizens and the state of emergency from the government of President Sebastián Piñera in Chile. This past week Pirate representatives Alex Kohler and Pat Mächler visited the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at the United Nations Office At Geneva (UNOG). PPI has an amazing opportunity as a recognized member of the UN Economic and Social Affairs Committee (ECOSOC) to host and attend UN events in NY, Geneva, and around the world. We are working to make a difference by sending representatives to events who will voice our opinions and network with policy makers. Israel Elections on April 9th. Pirates breaking the threshold!

The Pirate Party of Israel is participating in national elections, which will take place on April 9th, and they don’t stand a chance. However, this does not keep them from promoting change in society, and they are running a fierce campaign suggesting a way to break past barriers between the public and policy makers and overturn the system.
