Our colleague from the Pirate Party of Switzerland, Carlos Polo, attended the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Resource Management Week 2025 in Geneva from March 24 to 28. The goal of the event was to discuss sustainable management of energy and mineral resources. Participants explored the adoption of the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS). Numerous experts spoke on ‘just energy transition’, whereby we are converting from fossil fuels to more environmentally friendly energy use. Let’s Revisit The Tyranny of the Putin Regime in Ukraine

Opposition to war is ingrained in Pirate values. Pirates have stood firmly against the aggression of Putins’s regime and in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty. The conflict in Ukraine has been a rallying call for us. Pirate Parties International responded swiftly in solidarity with Ukraine. We began volunteer activities to support Ukraine with donations. Some of our members even travelled to Ukraine, risking their own lives to provide aid. Three years later the conflict continues. We may be at a crossroads where the US government seems to be switching sides, and we worry for the future of the region. PPI Attends The World Summit on the Information Society

PPI recently attended The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) +20 Forum High-Level Event 2024 from 27 to 31 May 2024. This is a UN summit held in Geneva. The current event marked the summit’s 20th anniversary. The WSIS aims to bridge the digital divide by increasing internet accessibility in developing countries. The event was co-organized by several United Nations organizations including ITU, UNESCO, UNDP, and UNCTAD. Numerous NGOs spoke, and PPI’s representatives were able to interact with these other NGOs, network, and share ideas. Our PPI UNOG main representative Carlos Polo attended the event on our behalf. Pirates at the UNHQ Partnership Forum in NY

On January 30, 2024 PPI’s representatives Ohad Shem Tov and Ohad Bar Siman Tov attended the United Nations Headquarters in New York for the Partnership Forum of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). We are delighted to share that this weekend marks 11 years since the founding of Pirate Parties International! A little bit about the history: After the founding of Piratpartiet in Sweden on January 1, 2006, other pirate parties emerged throughout Europe, and later worldwide. In the same year, a loose network of these parties was formed. In June 2007, representatives of the pirate parties of Sweden, the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Poland, Spain, Ireland, Denmark, and Finland met for the first time at an international conference in Vienna. Pirate Statement on Homelessness for the United Nations

The following statement was made by Pirate Parties International headquarters (PPI HQ) for the Commission for Social Development (CSocD58) conference [1] on “affordable housing and social protection systems for all to address homelessness”. This year is special for the CSocD, which is celebrating 75 years.
