Pirate Parties International on the Crisis in Venezuela

Pirate Parties International (PPI) strongly condemns the reported attack by the United States on Venezuela [1], which constitutes a grave violation of international law. The use of military force against a sovereign state is a clear breach of the UN Charter, specifically the prohibition of the use of force under Article 2(4). International conflicts must be resolved exclusively through diplomatic and legal channels. Reports regarding the abduction of Nicolás Maduro and his wife are deeply concerning. If the statements made by Donald Trump [2] [4] are confirmed, they represent serious human rights violations. Regardless of one’s political stance on the government in Caracas, such actions are a breach of international …

Hack The Promise Festival Basel 2024: Reflections on Truth, Uncertainty, and the Digital Society

The Hack The Promise Festival in Basel has firmly established itself as a pivotal platform where international experts, activists, and engaged communities come together for interdisciplinary discussions on the social, political, and technical challenges of digital transformation. The 2024 festival revolved around the theme “fact/fake/fiction,” exploring how truth, fiction, and manipulation increasingly intertwine in digital spaces and what this means for democratic societies. At last year’s event, Schoresch Davoodi delivered his lecture in German, titled „Fakten und Fiktionen – Wie die Gesellschaft durch Unsicherheit gestresst wird“ (“Facts and Fictions – How Society is Stressed by Uncertainty”). His presentation moved beyond a mere description of digital phenomena, analyzing how overlapping global …

Online event: Going sustainable – Is the energy transition possible?

The energy sector is key to becoming sustainable. Moving away from fossil fuels to renewable energy would eliminate the majority of human caused CO2 emissions and enable other sectors to reduce their footprint. But is it possible to convert an industrialized nation to 100% renewable energy? What about renewable energy drought? The sun does not shine at night! Is there even enough space to build all the necessary systems? Who is going to pay for that? Our presentation shows the numbers for Germany and how they change when going renewable. After the presentation, there will be an open discussion. The event is held twice to allow people to participate …

75 years after the promulgation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights [1], as a pirate movement, we renew our commitment to the defense and promotion of the rights established in the 1948 text and the treaties that have followed, which enshrine the ethical minimums we want for all people, communities and countries. We reinforce our work to overthrow all discrimination and subjugation of human beings by States, corporations and individuals. We call on the international community to continue working to co-construct a world that guarantees the dignity and freedom of individuals and communities, based on the collaboration of peoples in solidarity. At a time when greed and lust for …

In areas where housing cannot be provided, PPI proposes structured and open use of apps, websites and manned computer labs to help homeless locate resources, …

Cemetery Mediterranean Sea? What will become of the sea of the Europeans? Holiday area number 1 and on the doorstep of a rich Europe and the place of most legends and myths, all of which have to do with migration, from Homer’s Odysseus to the history of the Argo or thousands of other traditions. People fleeing countries where you and your people are killed by weapons sold to these countries from our rich Europe are dying in masses and in front of everyone in this sea of …
