The first session of the United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance took place in Geneva on 6 and 7 July 2026. Reflections from the 34th Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Side Event at UNOV

Last month PPI’s United Nations Office at Vienna main representative Kay Schroeder attended a side event co-hosted by Interpol and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime during the 34th Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. The event focused on the use of neurotechnologies in criminal justice. PPI is closely monitoring these conversations out of our concern that overzealous institutions will use these technologies to infringe on civil liberties. Neurotechnology includes everything from functional MRI scanners to brain stimulation devices. And the scary thing is that law enforcement have been adopting these technologies. PPI Workshop on Networking Ethics Accepted at IGF on June 23rd in Norway

PPI is heading again to the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), this time in Norway. The IGF is a UN event that brings together a large number of governments and non-profit organizations. The Pirate Party of Russia Endorses the United Nations Open Source Principles Recently, the Digital Technology Network (DTN) of the UN Board of Directors adopted 8 Open Source Principles. The Pirate Party of Russia, since its inception, has advocated for openness—including open source—and international integration. Therefore, we have decided to join this important initiative, which positively impacts the development of all humanity in a broad sense. In our decision-making, we adhere to the principles of direct electronic democracy and meta-politics. Our colleague from the Pirate Party of Switzerland, Carlos Polo, attended the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Resource Management Week 2025 in Geneva from March 24 to 28. The goal of the event was to discuss sustainable management of energy and mineral resources. ​Participants explored the adoption of the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS). Numerous experts spoke on ‘just energy transition’, whereby we are converting from fossil fuels to more environmentally friendly energy use. Statement from Pirate Party of Israel on the Hamas Massacre of October 7th and the Gaza-Israel War

At sunrise on October 7th, thousands of participants at the peaceful NOVA music festival were brutally attacked and massacred by Hamas terrorists, resulting in over 260 butchered, and hundreds shot and injured. As an after-party, thousands of Hamas militants continued to carry out brutal massacres, torturing and mutilating bodies across civilian populations bordering the Gaza strip, killing men, women, children and pets indiscriminately. All this occurred amidst thousands of missiles being launched simultaneously towards urban communities across Israel. By sunset on October 7th there were over 1,400 killed and over 200 taken hostage, representing various nationalities worldwide.  The atrocities that occurred on October 7th haven’t been seen in this land …

PPI Sends Delegates To The United Nations’ Internet Governance Forum

From October 7th to 12th PPI sent two of its board members, Alexander Isavnin and Keith Goldstein, to the UN’s Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Kyoto, Japan. They were joined by many other colleagues, some of whom are also Pirates formally and informally in Japan and around the world. The IGF fosters collaboration between organizations in order to shape the future of the internet. The event takes place each year in a different country. PPI has participated in the IGF several times in the past, as it is one of the most relevant UN events for us. We hosted a virtual booth, spoke in talks, and attended numerous sessions. Recordings …

PPI sends delegates to the UN’s Cybercrime Committee

From August 21 to 25, 2023, PPI’s representatives at the UN Headquarters in New York, Dr. Ohad Shem Tov and Dr. Keith Goldstein, participated as delegates in the Sixth session of the Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes: https://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/cybercrime/ad_hoc_committee/ahc_sixth_session/main. The committee was attended primarily by national delegations, as well as several major NGOs that are working in the field. Interpol seemed to have the largest delegation.
