Pirates from All Over Europe Met in Liberec, Czech Republic

On the last weekend of April, Pirates from all over Europe (and beyond) met in the city of Liberec, northern Czechia. And what was the reason? The annual General Assembly of the Czech Pirate Party. As part of the event, two debates were organised. On Saturday April 29th, a panel of European politicians got assembled. Moderated by Marcel Kolaja, a Pirate member of European Parliament, politicians from three European countries debated the state of their countries and the European project as a whole. PPI Update on our Presence at the UN in Geneva in 2022

As an organisation with the observer status with the UN Economic and Social Council, PPI is involved in quite a lot UN meetings. Thanks to our active team in Geneva, Switzerland, headed by our board member Carlos Polo, we manage to maintain our presence at these meeting quite well. Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (Pirates) met privately with Joe Biden during the UN GA in September

As the Czech Republic currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union, we’ve gotten used to Czech Pirate politicians, who are part of the current Czech government, being more visible on the international stage. None more than the Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský though. In September he attended the United Nations General Assembly in New York on behalf of his country; and his presence was widely felt. United States Pirates become the newest addition to the PPI family!

Happy 4th of July to our American friends and we’re also happy to announce that at our General Assembly on Saturday the United States Pirate Party became the newest member of the PPI family. The vote has been unanimous; all members present voted to bring the USPP into the fold. This brings the current number of Pirate Parties gathered within the PPI to 31. Welcome!

Global Pirates elected new leadership for the coming two years

January 11th 2022 – Pirate Parties International (PPI), the global umbrella organisation of Pirate Parties around the world, held its 16th General Assembly on Saturday, January 8th, during which new leadership was elected. Every year Pirate Parties from all over the world elect half of PPI’s board. In this weekend’s election, a German Pirate, Gregory Engels, was successfully re-elected as the organisation’s vice-chairman. The chairwoman, Canadian Bailey Lamon, still has one year remaining on her term. PPI Stand at the Internet Governance Forum; Dec 6 to 10 in Katowice, Poland

From December 6th to 10th the PPI will have its own stand (no. 29) at the UN’s Internet Governance Forum (IGF). If you’ll be in town, feel free to stop by and have a talk. Present at the stand will be some local Polish Pirates, as well as Gregory Engels, PPI vice-chair (Germany); Mike Gill, PPI general secretary (Czechia); Alexander Isavnin (Russia). Even Mikuláš Peksa, the Czech member of European Parliament will stop by from time to time. You’ll find us right between the stand of the OECD, Polish Ministry of Development and the Moscow Free University (pay them a visit as well). See you in Katowice!

Czech Pirates are joining the new government!

Czech Pirates are joining the new government! In a momentous vote, the Czech Pirates (Česká pirátská strana) approved their participation in the forming five-party coalition government. Thus set to make the Czechs the very first Pirate Party being a member of a government; in the entire world. In early October, the election took place. And for the Czech Pirates, it was an extremely bittersweet victory. They run on a joint ticket together with the STAN party (Mayors and Independents) and with 15,6 % of the vote got 37 MPs in the 200-seat lower house.
