Pirate Parties International General Assembly, July 29th

About half a year has passed since our last GA, and we are ready for the 2023 PPI Summer GA! This will be an entirely online GA. At the last board meeting we decided to hold the next GA on Saturday, July 29th. We will start at 08:00 UTC, which is 10:00 CEST. This GA will focus on discussing various proposals. Election of new PPI officers will take place in the following Winter GA, so we will be focusing primarily on updates and proposals. If needed we will extend the meeting on Sunday, but hopefully we can finish the meeting in one day. The meeting will take place tentatively on …

An Update on Numerous Recent Activities of PPI at the United Nations Office in Geneva!   Autonomous Weapons Systems (AWS) PPI has been accepted to be one of the Civil Society representatives to contribute on the mandate of regulation of autonomous weapons systems (AWS). All the technological aspects of understanding the use of functions of this systems are clear for all actors, the main issues of discussion are when the machine can decide for itself to take a human life. Passing of the former Brazilian congressman and journalist David Miranda

It is with great sorrow that we receive the news of the passing of the former Brazilian congressman and journalist David Miranda. David was an important figure in the fight for human rights, especially regarding privacy and digital security. As a journalist, he was fundamental in disseminating Edward Snowden’s revelations about the mass surveillance practices of the United States. As a politician, he tirelessly dedicated himself to defending civil liberties and the protection of citizens’ personal data. His contribution to the cause will be remembered with fondness and respect. We at the Pirate Parties International offer our sincere condolences to David’s family, friends, and colleagues. Pirates from All Over Europe Met in Liberec, Czech Republic

On the last weekend of April, Pirates from all over Europe (and beyond) met in the city of Liberec, northern Czechia. And what was the reason? The annual General Assembly of the Czech Pirate Party. As part of the event, two debates were organised. On Saturday April 29th, a panel of European politicians got assembled. Moderated by Marcel Kolaja, a Pirate member of European Parliament, politicians from three European countries debated the state of their countries and the European project as a whole. On Sunday, April 23 at 22:00 CEST PPI  will be holding a SCUBA meeting (Standing Committee on UN Bureaucratic Activities followed by the Pirate Beer social event. We will discuss an upcoming IGF call for proposals and other UN activities. Immediately after the meeting we will transition to our routine Pirate Beer social event.
