We recognize June 6th as Edward Snowden Day in commemoration of when the news he provided about the top-secret Prism was first revealed to the world. We hope this day will not focus on the negative aspects of surveilance states but will symbolize a day for digital human rights, privacy, and freedom. We are both celebrating Edward Snowden as a person as well as the meaning of what he revealed and helped us protect, our digital freedom. General Assembly June 20, 2026 Feedback Survey

The next PPI General Assembly is approaching, and there are several organizational points that still need to be finalized. The GA has already been published, but without a confirmed time. We now need to agree on the schedule and make sure all parties and delegates receive the necessary information. As part of the preparation, we need to update Discourse (https://ga.pp-international.net/), publish the proposed statute amendments, and collect delegate information. General Assembly Will Take Place on June 20th

Pirate Parties International will hold a Special General Assembly (GA) on June 20, 2026. The meeting is being called following a special request from the Czech Pirates and other PPI members. The GA will take place online. At the PPI Board meeting on May 5, 2026, the Board agreed that it was necessary to call the GA without delay. The main reason is an urgent technical transition. PPI’s current technical services contract is ending on June 30, 2026, and the organization must decide how to ensure the continued operation of its communication, website, email, and related infrastructure. Let´s Keep Android Open!

Pirates have consistently chosen Android over Apple because it is opensource and free. You buy the phone, so you should be able to decide what apps run on it. You should be able to tinker with it, as you wish. Unfortunately, Google’s new developer verification rules will change that. Starting in September 2026 (just a few months away from now), apps from outside the Play Store will be blocked unless the developer has registered with Google, agreed to its terms, paid fees, and handed over their identity documents. Age Verification Enforcement Concerns

Many pirates have been writing about the growing global movement to enforce age verification on social media and other online forums. We thus started asking our communities for feedback on this issue. This blog outlines the reasons for our concerns. We outline a number of studies and media that document the issue. PPI will continue to monitor this situation and attempt to submit statements at the UN and other international forums to block age verification enforcement. The Slovenian Pirate Party released a statement on April 3rd, 2026, marking the 10th anniversary of the Panama Papers. Today marks 10 years since the publication of the Panama Papers. One of the most extensive journalistic investigations in history uncovered millions of documents from the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca. It revealed that numerous politicians, billionaires, and corporations around the world were hiding their assets in tax havens. Hiding actual ownership through shell companies and channeling funds into tax havens does not serve only tax evasion, but also fraud. Transferring assets to such companies can lead to the defrauding of creditors. Today, 10 years later, not much has changed. While …

Reviewing Our United Nations Activities

Perhaps the crowning achievement of PPI has been our participation in UN forums. We created a separate headquarters in Geneva in 2016, specifically with the goal of having a seat at UNOG. The following year in 2017 we were officially admitted into the Economic and Social Council Affairs Council. That same year we set up another center in New York hosted by local Pirates, which assists representatives attend events at UNHQ. In 2018 PPI achieved a milestone registering representatives simultaneously in all three UN centers. Most recently, since 2024, we now have an additional center in Vienna that can also assist Pirates who wish to attend events at UNOV. We …
