Hack the Promise 2025 Conference Review

The HackThePromise Festival took place again from October 3–5, 2025 in the city of Basel, Switzerland. The theme this year was “Hacking Systems, Hacking Futures.” As usual, numerous Pirates were in attendance, including PPI´s alternate board member Schoresch Davoodi who spoke at the event and took pictures for us. https://hackthepromise.org/ The festival interprets “hacking” as not only about computers. Reviewing PPI´s Participation at the Internet Governance Forum

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) just ended, and PPI was lucky enough to host a workshop and have several representatives on site, together with our colleagues from PPEU. We have participated in this event for numerous years consecutively and view this forum as one of our main avenues to influence transnational governance on an issue that is very important to us, the Internet. This was the 20th IGF and held in Norway. The overarching theme was “Building Digital Governance Together”. PPI’s Ethical Networking Workshop For the second year in a row we hosted a Day 0 workshop. Pirates at the UNHQ Partnership Forum in NY

On January 30, 2024 PPI’s representatives Ohad Shem Tov and Ohad Bar Siman Tov attended the United Nations Headquarters in New York for the Partnership Forum of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). We are deeply saddened by the events in the region and extend our solidarity to the people of both nations who are suffering the consequences of this protracted conflict. PPI sends delegates to the UN’s Cybercrime Committee

From August 21 to 25, 2023, PPI’s representatives at the UN Headquarters in New York, Dr. Ohad Shem Tov and Dr. Keith Goldstein, participated as delegates in the Sixth session of the Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes: https://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/cybercrime/ad_hoc_committee/ahc_sixth_session/main. The committee was attended primarily by national delegations, as well as several major NGOs that are working in the field. Interpol seemed to have the largest delegation.
