Call For Assistance to Help Secure the Release of Elizabeth Tsurkov Who Has Been Held Captive in Iraq for 6 Months

Elizabeth Tsurkov was kidnapped in March 2023 in Iraq. Elizabeth volunteered together with PPI’s General Secretary and other Pirates to assist refugees in the Middle East, albeit with no direct connection to the Pirate movement. She might be surprised herself to hear that PPI has issued this call to assist her, but owing to the failure of formal diplomatic channels we might represent one of the best chances she has left. Elizabeth is a doctoral student at Princeton University. Her research focuses on human rights and sectarianism in the Middle East. One of Elizabeth’s remarkable qualities was her fluency in Arabic. She supported Palestinian and Muslim communities, and she is …

September 11, 2023. Fifty years after the bombing of La Moneda and the beginning of a terrorist dictatorship led by the military and right-wing civilians, the Pirate Party of Chile, along with condemning the events that occurred five decades ago, the seventeen years of horror, the thousands of human rights violations and the permanent obstruction to the clarification of the facts, the timely action of justice and reparations to the victims, declares that the wounds and traumas that still affect our society must necessarily be addressed in order to move forward in the construction of a healthy society, in which every person and every community can grow and develop fully. …

Passing of the former Brazilian congressman and journalist David Miranda

It is with great sorrow that we receive the news of the passing of the former Brazilian congressman and journalist David Miranda. David was an important figure in the fight for human rights, especially regarding privacy and digital security. As a journalist, he was fundamental in disseminating Edward Snowden’s revelations about the mass surveillance practices of the United States. As a politician, he tirelessly dedicated himself to defending civil liberties and the protection of citizens’ personal data. His contribution to the cause will be remembered with fondness and respect. We at the Pirate Parties International offer our sincere condolences to David’s family, friends, and colleagues.
